Four Al-Shabaab militants have died after National Police Reservists (NPR) engaged them in a fierce gunfight in Wajir County, Kenya.
For years, the Somalia-based extremists have carried out several attacks in northeastern Kenya.
The attack offers the latest proof of the success that security forces in the Horn of Africa region are enjoying against the Al-Qaeda linked group.
Thomas Ngeywa, the Police Commander in charge of Wajir County, confirmed the incident that took place on Monday.
Ngeywa said, “We received reports earlier today showing that our police reservists encountered several Al-Shabaab militants, fought and killed some of them.”
The Police Commander further confirmed that KDF’s Special Forces have already secured the area to ensure that Al-Shabaab does not retaliate.
The gunfight started at 10am and lasted about four hours.
NPR has been manning the region to prevent Al-Shabaab from carrying out their reign of terror against innocent citizens.
