MOGADISHU, Somalia – The election process for the upcoming Banadir regional council advanced considerably today as multiple political entities formally presented their candidate rosters to the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC).
During an official ceremony in Mogadishu, the commission accepted the lists of contenders who will participate in the forthcoming “one person, one vote” local council elections.
The political entities that submitted their candidate documentation today are: Ramaas Political Organization, Karaama Political Organization, Somali Unity Saab Political Organization, and the Justice and Unity Political Organization (Cadaaladda iyo Wadajirka).
This submission phase represents a crucial element of the commission’s work to guarantee that the election proceeds with transparency, efficiency, and strict compliance with the previously established timeline.
The action indicates these political players’ preparedness to participate in the democratic exercise and compete for the authority to administer the capital’s districts.
Regarding the advancement of the registration phase, the NIEBC Chairman, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, recognized the entities that have met the specified requirements.
He issued a firm notification to the remaining political bodies that have not yet completed their paperwork.
Hassan stressed that the opportunity for submission is diminishing quickly, calling on all remaining factions to deliver their full candidate slates before the cutoff date of December 10.
The commission reasserted that following this schedule is vital for the prompt preparation of ballot papers and the comprehensive operational success of this landmark electoral event.
