A popular musician who returned to Somaliland from Mogadishu was arrested immediately he arrived in Hargeisa.
Authorities arrested Qamar Sugani, one of the most popular musicians in the region, when he arrived in Somaliland on Wednesday, October 28.
Sugani’s arrest is the latest incident in a trend that sees security agents arresting musicians who return to Somaliland after performing in Somalia.
The northern breakaway region does not enjoy good diplomatic relations with its Horn of Africa neighbor.
Sugani is likely to be presented in court soon though authorities are notorious for taking their time before filing lawsuits against detainees.
