On Sunday, Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Marine Transport, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, conducted an official inspection of the Mogadishu Sea Port to assess its current operational status and ongoing transformation initiatives. During the visit, the Minister was briefed by port authorities and technical teams on the daily activities, cargo flow, and recent improvements in container handling and logistics management.
This visit forms part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize Somalia’s key maritime infrastructure and boost economic development through enhanced port efficiency. The Mogadishu Port, being a central hub for trade and imports into the country, has seen gradual upgrades in its facilities, including digitization of customs processes, improved container stacking systems, and stronger security protocols.
Abdulkadir emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that the port meets international standards to better serve Somali businesses, attract foreign investment, and position the country as a key player in regional maritime trade. He commended the workers and management for their ongoing efforts and underscored the importance of continued reforms to increase transparency, accountability, and service delivery at the port.
