Mogadishu, Somalia — Premier Bank CEO Mohamed Ghedi held a high-level meeting with the British Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King, on Tuesday to explore deeper cooperation on Somalia’s economic development, private sector expansion, and climate financing.
The talks, which took place in Mogadishu, centered on fostering stronger financial systems that can accelerate job creation, improve livelihoods, and attract sustainable investment in the Horn of Africa nation.
Amb. King reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s economic transformation and praised the role of Somali banks in promoting financial inclusion and resilience.
CEO Ghedi emphasized the private sector’s critical contribution to Somalia’s post-conflict recovery, stressing the need for international partnerships to unlock access to capital, modern banking services, and climate adaptation funding.
“Premier Bank is committed to driving innovation and inclusive growth in Somalia’s financial sector,” Ghedi stated, adding that collaboration with partners like the UK is essential in tackling pressing challenges such as climate change and youth unemployment.
Both parties acknowledged the urgent need for climate finance solutions tailored to Somalia’s vulnerabilities, including drought, floods, and food insecurity.
The meeting signals growing momentum in aligning public-private dialogue with Somalia’s national development goals and climate resilience efforts.
