President Bihi Declares the First 12Kms of the Berbera Corridor Official Open

President Musa Bihi Abdi of Somaliland has officially opened the first 12kms of the Berbera Corridor, a highway running from Berbera to Wajale.

During the opening ceremony, Eng. Tahir Mehmood of Nael & Bin Harmal Hydroexport Establishment (NBHH), briefed the President on various aspects of the project.

NBHH is the firm responsible for constructing Berbera Corridor into a world-class highway that makes road transportation more effective.

Berbera Corridor is highly significant to the Republic of Somaliland.

Abdilahi Abokor Osman, the Minister of Transport and Highway Development, accompanied the President to the official opening ceremony.

In his speech, the minister said, “The new corridor would be different from the old one in terms of quality and dimensions.”

He reiterated that today’s occasion was for opening the 12kms of the road that NBHHE have completed thus far.

Abokor said the former road had the capacity for handling only 6 tons. However, the new one would have no problem handling over 40 tons.

On his part, President Bihi hailed the progress done so far, particularly the role played by the Ministry of Transport and Highway Development.
