Reports from Hargeisa indicate that President Muse Bihi Abdi met with a delegation officials on Friday afternoon.
Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao led the Chinese delegation to the Hargeisa meeting.
Ambassador Yuxiao represented the Forum on China and African Cooperation, a department at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The talks between President Bihi and Ambassador Yuxiao’s delegation focused on several issues affecting the two nations.
However, multiple sources have confirmed the top on the agenda of issues discussed was the diplomatic relations between Somaliland and China.
In July, Somaliland announced intentions to strengthen diplomatic ties with Taiwan, which China claims as part of its territory.
Chinese government did not take the growing rapprochement between Somaliland and Taiwan kindly. Beijing voiced its displeasure to Mogadishu.
For decades, Somaliland has been trying to earn international recognition away from Somalia unsuccessfully but that seems to be changing in 2020.
