President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland held a meeting at his office in Hargeisa with commissioners from the National Election Commission (NEC) on Tuesday, August 25.
During the meeting, Bihi urged NEC to increase its efforts in ensuring that the country is ready for timely elections.
On their part, the commissioners briefed Bihi on the achievements of the commission.
They also discussed the tasks that lay ahead of NEC, especially those critical to enabling the country hold timely polls.
Bihi reminded them that the eyes of every voter in Somaliland are on the NEC.
Furthermore, President Bihi used the opportunity to reassure the country that his government is committed to holding elections within the next nine months.
A recent meeting between Bihi, opposition parties, NEC, and other stakeholders in Hargeisa agreed that polls must be held in the next nine months.
While delivering a keynote speech to supporters of the ruling Kulmiye Party, Bihi urged voters to reject his candidature if elections are not held on schedule.
