President Said Abdullahi Deni of Somalia’s semiautonomous region of Puntland has asked police and all security forces to shoot and kill any criminal or armed gunman.
On Wednesday, President Deni urged the security officers around the region not to show mercy to any person hell-bent on participating in criminal activities.
He urged police to shoot such individuals on the spot.
President Deni was speaking in Puntland’s administrative capital of Galkayo. He reminded the officers that the region has many enemies who wear different faces.
Deni advised security officers to create close relations with locals since these would enable them to acquire critical information to help keep the region safe and secure for everyone.
His message comes a few days after police officers in Garowe opened fire against protestors.
In the last few years, Puntland has witnessed several clashes between security forces and clan militia, Al-Shabaab fighters, and ISIS extremists.
