President Farmaajo Condemns Al-Shabaab’s Assassination of Nugal Governor

President Mohamed Farmaajo has condemned the recent assassination of Governor Abdisalam Hassan Hersi of Nugal by Al-Shabaab.

On Sunday, Farmaajo expressed his displeasure with the heinous act during a rare phone conversation with Puntland’s President Said Deni.

Hersi, a former police chief, and a soldier were injured in the aftermath of the suicide bombing. Later, Heris succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Garowe General Hospital.

The soldier and former police commander, Farah Galangoli, are still at the same hospital receiving medical care for their life-threatening injuries.

In his phone call, Farmaajo condemned the assassination. He added, “We must bring the perpetrators to book quickly as a way of honoring the slain governor.”

Garowe, which is a relatively peaceful city, has not suffered terrorist attacks in the last five years.
