Mogadishu, Somalia – The national commemoration of Somali Teachers’ Day took place at Mogadishu Stadium, attended by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the Minister of Education, and other high-ranking officials. Thousands of students from schools and universities throughout the capital gathered at the venue to observe the occasion.
This year’s event represents the first major celebration in 24 years, since the previous large-scale event in 2001, which former President Dr. Abdiqasim Salad Hassan attended. The resurgence of the commemoration highlights the nation’s renewed dedication to valuing teachers and acknowledging their essential role in reconstructing Somalia’s education system.
