Mogadishu, Somalia – President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, gave a keynote speech at the national event for Somali Teachers’ Day, hosted at Mogadishu Stadium by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education.
The President underscored the essential role of Somali teachers, praising their longstanding efforts in progressing the nation’s education system and cultivating capable generations to forge Somalia’s future. He instructed the ministry to complete hiring the outstanding teachers to fulfill the government’s 10,000-teacher program.
“In this country, no one is more valuable than the Somali teacher and soldier. It is our duty to honour and support teachers, who are the backbone of societal development. The government has already hired 6,000 teachers, now fully deployed across educational institutions. I urge the ministry to swiftly finalize the remaining recruitment and ensure proper training,” President Hassan said.
The President renewed his government’s pledge to bolster teacher training, professional development, and incentives, ensuring that present and future generations obtain education meeting international benchmarks. He advised Somali youth that they lead both now and in the years ahead.
Those present at the ceremony included Education Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, top government figures, education organizations, teachers, and students from schools in the capital, who offered performances to celebrate Somali educators.
In conclusion, President Mohamud accepted an honorary recognition from the education community and lauded Somali teachers for their endurance and commitment amid the nation’s hardest periods. He highlighted his administration’s emphasis on teacher well-being and elevating the country’s education framework.
