Hargeisa, Somaliland – Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro, President of Somaliland, today hosted a high-level delegation from the European Union at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa.
The visiting team was led by Dr. Annette Weber, the EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.
The meeting focused on strengthening political dialogue, development cooperation, and regional security, particularly in light of growing geopolitical interests and instability in the Horn of Africa. President Irro and Dr. Weber discussed issues related to peacebuilding, democratic governance, humanitarian assistance, and economic development.
President Irro welcomed the EU’s continued engagement and reiterated Somaliland’s commitment to regional stability and constructive international partnerships. He emphasized the importance of recognizing Somaliland’s democratic progress and its role as a peaceful and stable actor in the Horn of Africa.
Dr. Weber, in turn, acknowledged Somaliland’s contributions to regional peace and development. She reaffirmed the EU’s support for inclusive dialogue and collaborative efforts to address shared challenges, including migration, climate resilience, and counter-terrorism.
The visit by the EU delegation underscores Europe’s sustained interest in engaging with key regional actors and supporting long-term peace and development across the Horn of Africa. The delegation also met with senior Somaliland government officials and representatives of civil society during their mission.
This marks Dr. Weber’s latest visit to Somaliland in her ongoing mandate to promote EU policy objectives in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region.
