President Irro Returns to Somaliland After Landmark Diplomatic Visit to Djibouti

Hargeisa, Somaliland — President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro of Somaliland returned home on Friday afternoon following a highly significant three-day official working visit to the Republic of Djibouti.

Upon arrival at Hargeisa’s Egal International Airport, President Irro and his delegation were warmly received by Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, senior cabinet members, and other dignitaries in a ceremonious welcome that reflected the importance of the visit.

Undertaken at the invitation of Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, the visit served to reaffirm and deepen the historic and strategic relationship between the two neighbouring states.

Somaliland and Djibouti share enduring ties rooted in common history, geographic proximity, and a mutual vision for peace, regional integration, and economic development in the Horn of Africa.

During the visit, President Irro held extensive bilateral talks with President Guelleh and Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed.

The leaders engaged in constructive consultations focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors including trade, technology, security, and cross-border infrastructure.

The discussions also underscored a shared commitment to regional stability and peaceful engagement.

President Irro was accompanied by a high-level delegation that included ministers for Investment, ICT, Civil Aviation, Youth and Sports, and the Head of National Intelligence — highlighting the strategic, multisectoral focus of the visit.

A notable highlight of the visit was President Irro’s tour of the Haramous Submarine Cable Station, a major node in East Africa’s digital infrastructure.

The visit signified the leaders’ joint recognition of technological advancement as a cornerstone of sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the region.

Further underlining Somaliland’s diplomatic outreach, President Irro met with ambassadors from key international partners including France, Ethiopia, and the United Kingdom.

These meetings reflected Somaliland’s growing efforts to strengthen international ties and promote its interests through proactive and constructive diplomacy.
