Hargeisa, Somaliland — The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro, on Wednesday received Djibouti’s Representative to Somaliland, Ambassador Hussein Omar Kawaliyeh, at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa for a meeting that underscored the growing partnership between the two neighboring nations.
During the cordial discussions, President Irro and Amb. Kawaliyeh reaffirmed the deep historical and cultural ties binding Somaliland and Djibouti, describing their relationship as one rooted in brotherhood, mutual respect, and shared vision for regional peace and development. The talks covered a wide range of areas, including strengthening cooperation on security and stability, expanding trade and economic collaboration, and promoting cultural and social exchange between the two peoples.
President Irro conveyed his warm greetings and appreciation to Djibouti’s President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, lauding his leadership and the enduring friendship between the two countries. He emphasized that Somaliland’s relationship with Djibouti goes beyond politics — it is built on shared heritage and collective aspirations for prosperity and stability across the Horn of Africa.
“Djibouti and Somaliland have always stood side by side through times of challenge and progress,” President Irro noted, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to deepen cooperation that supports sustainable growth and lasting peace in the region.
Amb. Kawaliyeh, in turn, praised Somaliland’s remarkable achievements in peacebuilding and governance, commending its leadership for maintaining stability and fostering development despite regional complexities. He reiterated Djibouti’s readiness to broaden cooperation with Somaliland, particularly in areas that promote trade connectivity and regional integration.
