President Ahmed Madobe of Jubaland has ordered the closure of all mosques in the region over COVID-19 fears.
The decision followed a meeting between Jubaland regional government and religious leaders in Kismayo.
Following the meeting, imams, religious leaders, and government representatives decided to take this measure to curb the further spread of the virulent disease in Jubaland.
Thus far, Jubaland has seen its tally of COVID-19 cases reach 58. The number of deaths currently stands at four.
President Madobe reiterated the decision by asking imams and all religious leaders to observe government directives.
The latest directives also include orders to close all playgrounds and hotels in the region to contain the disease that has brought businesses around the world to a standstill.
