Haaway, Middle Shabelle – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived today in Haaway, a key locality in the Middle Shabelle region, as part of a broader national initiative to bolster local development and reinforce state-building efforts across Somalia’s Federal Member States.
President Mohamud was warmly received by HirShabelle State President Ali Abdullahi Hussein Gudlawe, senior regional officials, traditional elders, and local residents.
His visit marks a significant step in the federal government’s renewed commitment to promoting inclusive development and improving governance and service delivery in underdeveloped rural areas.
According to officials accompanying the President, he is expected to inaugurate several development projects in Haaway and the surrounding areas.
These include the commissioning of a new health center, road infrastructure improvements, a water supply initiative, and education facilities—all designed to address long-standing service gaps in the region.
“The visit underscores President Mohamud’s dedication to bringing government services closer to the people and ensuring no community is left behind in Somalia’s development journey,” said a spokesperson from Villa Somalia.
Middle Shabelle, located in HirShabelle State, is a strategically important region frequently affected by insecurity and climate-related challenges.
President Mohamud’s visit also includes meetings with local leaders, security officials, and community representatives to assess ongoing stabilization efforts and reinforce federal-regional collaboration.
This trip is part of a nationwide outreach effort by the federal leadership to strengthen ties with regional administrations and fast-track the implementation of Somalia’s National Development Plan, especially in fragile and underserved areas.
Security forces from both the federal and HirShabelle state authorities were on high alert to ensure the President’s visit proceeded smoothly. No security incidents were reported during his arrival.
The President is expected to deliver a public address later today, highlighting the government’s vision for peace, development, and federal cooperation.
