President Mohamud Bids Goodbye to EU Ambassador to Somalia

Mogadishu, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday officially bid farewell to the outgoing European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Karin Johansson, marking the conclusion of her diplomatic mission in the country.

During a meeting held at Villa Somalia, President Mohamud expressed his sincere gratitude to Amb. Johansson for her pivotal role in strengthening the partnership between Somalia and the European Union. He commended her for advancing cooperation in key areas including security, governance, development, and humanitarian support.

“Ambassador Karin Johansson has been a steadfast partner in Somalia’s journey toward peace, stability, and progress. Her contribution to enhancing Somalia-EU bilateral relations will be remembered and appreciated,” President Mohamud said.

The EU, under Johansson’s leadership in Somalia, has remained one of the country’s key international allies, supporting democratic reforms, institutional capacity-building, and the ongoing fight against terrorism and climate-related challenges.

Amb. Johansson, whose tenure witnessed several major developments in Somalia’s political and security landscape, thanked the President and the Somali people for their cooperation and hospitality during her service.

Her departure comes at a time when Somalia continues to pursue key national priorities with strong international backing, including from the European Union.
