ADDIS ABABA — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated in a high-level forum on the future of the United Nations, held in Addis Ababa as a key side event of the African Union Summit.
In his address, President Hassan Sheikh stated that the global body confronts substantial challenges, including prolonged conflicts, geopolitical tensions, and economic pressures.
Demanding Representation
The President emphasized Africa’s significant contribution to global peace and security, noting that African nations lead peacekeeping operations and stabilization efforts.
However, he pointed out that the continent still lacks permanent representation on the UN Security Council, a matter he described as requiring immediate and serious reconsideration.
He urged for unity and persistent diplomacy to achieve meaningful reforms grounded in justice and equality, reaffirming Somalia’s dedication to enhancing and modernizing the international system.
President Hassan Sheikh reinforced Somalia’s endorsement of establishing a more inclusive global order where all continents receive fair participation and equal representation.
