President Mohamud Chairs Latest National Security Council Meeting

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud chaired a crucial National Security Council meeting on Sunday.

The meeting focused on Somalia’s security dynamics and transition strategies for the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

Primarily, their discussions were on reforming and strengthening of the National Armed Forces with special emphasis on equipping and preparing the Somali National Army (SNA) to take over full security responsibilities.

Additionally, the latest NSC meeting also touched on preparations for transitioning from ATMIS, which is currently on a drawdown of its forces, while evaluating the progress and challenges thereof.

President Mohamud chaired the NSC in discussing introduction of the AU Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), the new Somali-led AU mission, which they highlighted as a critical element in maintaining stability and ensuring an effective security framework post-ATMIS.

This meeting underscores Somalia’s commitment to advancing its sovereignty and long-term stability by fostering self-reliant security systems.
