President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has congratulated Somalia for winning the 2022 Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) U17 championships.
Somalia won the U17 tournament after beating South Sudan 3-1 in the finals held on Saturday, October 15.
They had qualified for the finals after edging out Uganda 8-7 on penalties in the semis.
South Sudan reached the finals after defeating Tanzania.
The U17 team was the first national football team from Somalia to reach the finals of a major championship.
They then created further history after winning the championships and qualifying for the 2023 AFCON, which will take place in Algeria.
