President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud continues self-isolating after announcing that he tested positive for COVID-19.
The Somalia leader announced his positive test on Friday, June 24 after returning to the country from a 2-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Consequently, he was unable to lead the country in celebrating the June 26 independence day celebrations.
Instead, Speaker Sheikh Aden Madobe of the House of the People (Lower House) led the event in Mogadishu on Saturday night.
The newly approved Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre was at the event too.
A statement from Villa Somalia said that President Mohamud would continue self-isolating until he tests negative upon further testing.
