Mogadishu, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially inaugurated the newly constructed headquarters of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Islamic Affairs in Mogadishu on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in Somalia’s pursuit of self-reliance and institutional reform.
The modern facility was fully funded through domestic resources, underscoring the Federal Government of Somalia’s growing capacity to finance key infrastructure projects without external assistance. This development reflects the government’s broader vision to strengthen national institutions and improve public service delivery across the country.
In his remarks at the ceremony, President Mohamud praised the ministry’s leadership and staff for their dedication, emphasizing the importance of religious institutions in fostering peace, unity, and moral guidance within Somali society.
“This building is not just a symbol of infrastructure development; it is a testament to our resolve to stand on our own feet, invest in our institutions, and serve our people with dignity and excellence,” said the President.
Senior government officials, religious leaders, and members of the public attended the inauguration, welcoming the facility as a step forward in consolidating the role of the ministry in promoting Islamic values and coordinating religious affairs nationwide.
The new headquarters is expected to enhance the ministry’s operational efficiency and provide a more accessible and dignified environment for both staff and visitors.
The inauguration comes amid broader national efforts to rebuild Somalia’s public sector, improve governance, and advance long-term development goals through greater reliance on domestic capabilities.
