President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been invited to attend a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session on Somalia.
The President received the invitation on Friday through the United Arab Emirates.
Currently, the UAE holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council this month.
President Mohamud is scheduled to address the special UNSC sitting.
His speech will mostly focus on asking UNSC to lift the arms embargo placed on Somalia decades ago.
The President has repeatedly appealed for the lifting of the embargo to enable Somalia to acquire advanced weapons.
Somalia takes over security responsibilities from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) this year.
ATMIS forces will pull out of Somalia completely by December 31, 2023.
