President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a pivotal meeting in Mogadishu with General Michael E. Langley, the Commander of United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), to reaffirm and advance the longstanding security partnership between Somalia and the United States.
The high-level engagement centered on accelerating joint counter-terrorism initiatives and enhancing operational coordination within the broader multi-partner security framework, particularly in the context of the newly approved African Union Somalia Support Mission (AUSSOM), which is set to succeed ATMIS.
President Mohamud expressed Somalia’s sincere gratitude for the United States’ unwavering support in combating terrorism and promoting regional stability. He emphasized the critical role American forces and advisors play in building the capacity of Somali security institutions and pushing back extremist threats, notably from Al-Shabaab.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to a secure and sovereign Somalia, agreeing to deepen collaboration through intelligence sharing, training, and joint operations aimed at dismantling terror networks and supporting stabilization efforts across liberated territories.
