Mogadishu, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has appointed Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed, a veteran journalist and seasoned media professional, as the new Director of Information and Media Relations at the Office of the President. He succeeds Mohamed Aden Mohamed, who held the position since 2023.
The appointment, announced late Tuesday, is seen as part of the president’s broader effort to strengthen the government’s communication strategy and improve public engagement. Abdiaziz, widely respected in Somali media circles, brings decades of experience spanning journalism, media management, and public relations.
A former broadcaster and editor, Abdiaziz has built a reputation for his insightful coverage of national affairs and his commitment to ethical journalism. Officials at Villa Somalia described Abdiaziz as “a capable communicator with a deep understanding of both the media landscape and the Somali public.” His role will include coordinating presidential media messaging, overseeing press briefings, and managing relationships between the presidency and local as well as international news outlets.
