President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has convened a special meeting at the State House in Mogadishu with the leaders of Southwest, Galmudug, and HirShabelle states. The summit focuses on recent developments, including setting the agenda for the proposed national dialogue on counterterrorism and building a modern democratic state.
This initiative aligns with previous efforts by the Somali government to address national security and governance challenges. In October 2024, President Mohamud chaired a National Consultative Council meeting in Mogadishu, attended by leaders from Jubaland, HirShabelle, Southwest, and Galmudug, as well as the mayor of Mogadishu and the Prime Minister. The discussions centered on accelerating the fight against Al-Shabaab, advancing the democratization process, and implementing prior agreements from the National Consultative Council.
Additionally, in October 2024, the President hosted a dinner with members of both houses of the Somali Federal Parliament, where he emphasized the importance of unity and enhanced security efforts. He commended state leaders who joined the National Consultative Council and highlighted priorities such as completing the liberation of areas under extremist control and strengthening national security.
These ongoing engagements reflect the Somali government’s commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration among federal and state leaders to achieve lasting security and democratic governance.
