Dhusamareeb, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Dhuusamareeb, the capital of Galmudug State, on Tuesday, where he was warmly welcomed by regional leader Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor and senior local officials.
According to an official statement, the President’s visit centers on two key priorities: inaugurating new development projects aimed at boosting local infrastructure and strengthening the joint fight against terrorism in central Somalia.
During his stay, President Mohamud is expected to meet with Galmudug authorities, security commanders, and community representatives to coordinate strategies for curbing extremist violence. The discussions will focus on mobilizing local communities, enhancing cooperation between state and federal institutions, and consolidating recent military gains against Al-Shabaab.
The visit comes as part of the federal government’s broader initiative to bring state capitals closer to Mogadishu’s governance framework while supporting grassroots peacebuilding. Officials say the President hopes to encourage civic participation in security efforts, underscoring the principle that defeating terror groups requires both military and community engagement.
Dhuusamareeb has in recent years played a central role in counter-terror operations in central Somalia, serving as a base for joint Somali and allied forces. The president’s trip highlights the government’s intent to consolidate these gains with parallel development and governance measures, seeking to deliver tangible benefits to residents alongside enhanced security.
