Prime Minister Barre Asks Parliament for More Time to Form Government

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of Somalia has asked the federal parliament to grant him more time to form his government.

The Prime Minister appeared before the House of the People (Lower House) on Monday, July 24 to ask for time.

Specifically, he asked for 10 days.

Parliament granted him the request.

Initially, Prime Minister Barre had 30 days, which expire on Monday, July 25, to form his cabinet.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appointed Barre his Prime Minister on June 15.

It’s now 40 days since Prime Minister Barre’s appointment. Seventy days have passed since President Mohamud won the presidential elections on May 15.

He has been running the country with the help of ex-President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s cabinet.
