Mogadishu, Somalia – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has opened the Second National Conference of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) in Mogadishu, highlighting the government’s advances in offering free, round-the-clock public services via the national ID system.
The conference attracted senior officials from federal ministries and agencies, delegates from federal member states, international partners, and other distinguished guests.
In his opening speech, NIRA Director General Abdiwali Timacadde announced that the authority has enrolled over one million Somalis since its establishment. He indicated that NIRA targets registering an additional 15 million citizens in the next three years through its nationwide initiative.
The two-day conference features panel discussions and research presentations aimed at bolstering Somalia’s national identification framework. This year’s theme is “Strengthening the Fundamental Infrastructure for National ID Utilization.”
