MOGADISHU — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, officially opened the 3rd National Education Conference on Sunday evening in Mogadishu.
The high-level gathering, organized under the theme “Clear Vision and Quality Development,” focuses on reforming the nation’s education system, standardizing curricula, and expanding access to quality learning nationwide.
Education as a Pillar of Security
In his keynote address, Prime Minister Hamza emphasized the critical role of education in Somalia’s reconstruction. He characterized a robust educational framework as the foundation for economic revival, social unity, and national security.
“The DanQaran Government has given special priority to investing in education… aiming to establish a high-quality, efficient, and modern education system that meets contemporary needs,” said the Prime Minister.
He highlighted that recent advancements have been supported by key legislative developments, including the Education Act and the National Education Policy. These frameworks provide the legal basis for enhanced administration and accountability within the sector.
Strategic Goals
The conference aligns with the country’s long-term strategic frameworks, such as the Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP 2022–2026) and the National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025–2029).
Key objectives of the conference include:

Curriculum Standardization: Unifying the national curriculum from primary education to higher learning.

Teacher Development: Implementing continuous training programs and evaluation systems to ensure educators are equipped with professional ethics and competence.

Financing Review: Conducting a mid-term review of Somalia’s Partnership Compact, supported by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).
Regional Collaboration
The event was attended by distinguished international guests, including a delegation from Djibouti led by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Nabil Mohamed Ahmed.
Earlier on Tuesday, Somalia’s Minister of Education, Culture, and Higher Education, Mr. Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, welcomed his Djiboutian counterpart at Aden Adde International Airport.
Prime Minister Hamza expressed his appreciation for Djibouti’s continued partnership, noting that their presence highlights the fraternal bonds and collaborative efforts between the two nations in advancing educational standards across the Horn of Africa.
