Proliferation of Arms in Somalia Deeply Concerning to Somaliland

The Somaliland government has expressed deep concern over the proliferation of arms in Somalia.

This issue poses a significant threat to the stability and security of the region.

The spread of illegal weapons can escalate violence and undermine efforts to maintain peace and order.

The Somaliland government is likely calling for stronger measures to control the flow of arms and ensure that security is not further compromised.

Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued  statement on this matter on July 16.

In the statement, it questioned last year’s lifting of arms embargo against Somalia by the United Nations.

Somaliland says the lifting of the embargo is responsible for the proliferation of illegal arms and weapons in Somalia, as evidenced by recent events.

Somaliland further accuses Mogadishu of inability to secure its stockpiles of military arms and weapons.

Consequently, it called on the UN and the international community to rethink the decision to lift the arms embargo.
