Protests in Mogadishu over Last Night’s Murder of Hodon DC

Residents of Mogadishu took to the streets to protest the shocking murder of the Hodon District Commissioner on January 20.

On Wednesday night, Abdihakim Dhagajuun was killed when his security guards engaged Somali Police Force (SPF) officers in a gunfight in the capital city.

DC Dhagajuun lost his life in the ensuing chaos.

He had just returned to the country after spending time away in Turkey receiving treatment for injuries suffered during a recent Al-Shabaab attack.

On Thursday, residents of Tarabunka, a local neighborhood in Mogadishu, took to the streets to demand action over his killing.

During the protests, they chanted their displeasure at the local police officers.

The protestors accused SPF officers of being behind the Hodon DC’s killing.

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has sent messages of condolences to the deceased’s family and friends.

Meanwhile, Omar Filish, the Mayor of Mogadishu serving also as the Governor of Benadir Region, ordered immediate investigations into the matter.
