Garowe, Somalia – Puntland State, with the support of the United States, successfully airlifted vital food and logistical supplies to its Counter-Terrorism Forces stationed in the rugged Al-Miskaad mountains on Thursday night.
According to Puntland authorities, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to sustain security forces engaged in long-term counterterrorism operations against Al-Shabaab and ISIS-linked militants who have sought refuge in the mountainous terrain in northeastern Somalia.
The airlift included essential food rations, medical kits, and tactical gear, ensuring that frontline units operating in remote and high-risk areas remain adequately supported.
A Puntland security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that U.S. logistical backing was instrumental in facilitating the nighttime delivery, highlighting Washington’s continued role as a strategic partner in Somalia’s stabilization efforts.
“This mission underscores our commitment to countering terrorist threats in Puntland. The support from the U.S. has been critical in reaching our forces positioned deep in the Al-Miskaad range,” the official said.
The Al-Miskaad mountains, which span the Bari region, have long been used as hideouts by extremist groups due to their inaccessible terrain. Puntland’s elite units have been conducting persistent operations in the area, often under challenging conditions.
The Puntland administration reiterated its dedication to defeating insurgency and thanked international partners for their consistent assistance in strengthening local security and state institutions.
This latest supply mission marks a significant logistical achievement and reflects the increasing coordination between Puntland security forces and international allies in the broader war on terrorism in the Horn of Africa.
