Puntland CID Participate in the First Online Workshop on Crime Scene Investigation

Officials from Puntland’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recently participated in the first online workshop on crime scene investigation.

The interactive workshop received the support of the local police as well as legal advisors from EU Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia).

During the workshop, participants were educated on the technical components of searching and seizing evidence, and all the legal requirements for investigation crime scenes.

Gen. Ibrahim Ali Hassan, who heads the state’s CID, attended the workshop together with several top CID officers.

Legal interns, who work for the Ministry of Justice, Religious Affairs and Rehabilitation in Puntland, participated in it as well courtesy of sponsorship from EUCAP Somalia.

Gen. Hassan hailed the workshop as a “positive development” for officers working in his department.

The workshop, which lasted one day, also highlighted the differences between investigating a crime scene and investigating a crime.

It also touched on managing crime scenes, most common forensic methods used in crime scenes, and the procedure for documenting crime scenes and collecting forensic evidence.
