Al Miskaad, Puntland – Puntland State’s Counterterrorism Forces launched a decisive operation in the early hours of Friday, targeting Islamic State-linked militants in the Baallade Valley of Al-Miskaad district.
According to the Puntland Counterterrorism Operations Command, security units entered Yucrin village, where they eliminated several militants attempting to flee. The operation swiftly extended to Maraagaale, another settlement within the valley, as part of an ongoing push to dismantle ISIS footholds in the mountainous terrain.
Military officials described the offensive as a continuation of Puntland’s broader counterterrorism campaign, aimed at rooting out extremist cells entrenched in the rugged valleys of Bari region. The Baallade Valley, long considered a strategic corridor used by militants for movement and concealment, has been a focal point of repeated security operations.
While casualty figures have not yet been officially disclosed, local sources reported hearing heavy gunfire during the raid. Security forces remain stationed in the area to secure gains and prevent militant regrouping.
The Puntland administration reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating ISIS elements in the region, stressing that the operations would continue until militant strongholds are fully neutralized. Authorities also urged residents of surrounding villages to cooperate with security forces and report suspicious movements to help stabilize the area.
This latest offensive underscores Puntland’s critical role in Somalia’s multi-front war against extremist groups, as regional and federal forces intensify efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
