A military court sitting in Puntland has sentenced a journalist authorities have kept in detention for the last 81 days to three years’ imprisonment.
Kilwe Adan Farah, a Puntland-based journalist, has been in detention since late last year.
Earlier, a local court had sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment.
However, the earlier sentence seems to have been quashed in favor of the new one that the military court slapped upon Kilwe on March 18.
Various activists have repeatedly called upon authorities to release Kilwe immediately.
The government of President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland has repeatedly ignored the calls for Kilwe’s unconditional release from illegal detention.
