Puntland Declares Resurgence of COVID-19 Cases

Puntland has declared a resurgence of the deadly COVID-19 cases in the semiautonomous regional state.

Dr. Jama Farah Hassan, Puntland’s Minister of Health, announced this on February 15 while addressing the media in Garowe.

“In recent days, we have noticed a resurgence of the COVID-19 cases in Somalia,” Dr. Hassan declared.

The health minister said that the regional administration has tested over 639 samples in the last two weeks.

In that time, 22 people have tested positive for the disease.

He noted that the new cases signal an increase of around 3.4 percent, which is small but quite significant.

Dr. Hassan encouraged those traveling to Puntland from Europe and the United States to avoid traveling around unnecessarily.

Instead, he advised them to stay at home within the first two weeks’ of their arrival to curb the spread of the deadly disease.
