On Friday, President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland traveled to Addis Ababa where he met and discussed key strategic issues with Ahmed Shide, Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance.
The two leaders discussed ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation and trade between Ethiopia and Puntland.
Further, their discussions touched on diverse sectors such as security and development. Deni and Shide also talked about the relations between Somalia and Ethiopia in general.
The Office of the Puntland President released a statement confirming that the meeting took place and outlining areas the two leaders talked on.
Additionally, it also clarified that Ethiopia’s finance minister was happy to meet Puntland’s president.
The meeting, which took place on Saturday, is the first high-level engagement between Puntland and Ethiopia leaders since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s election in 2018.
Puntland shares diverse partnerships with Ethiopia in environmental cooperation, security, investment, business, and education.
