Puntland Forces Kill 60 Terrorists in Operation Against ISIS

Security forces in Somalia’s northeastern semi-autonomous state of Puntland reported a significant operation against ISIS (Daesh) militants on Tuesday, claiming to have killed more than 60 terrorists.

General Mohamoud Fadhigo, the spokesperson for the Puntland Counter-Terrorism Operation, detailed that the mission involved a coordinated air and ground assault targeting ISIS strongholds in the mountainous Bari region.

According to Gen. Fadhigo, the operation is ongoing, with the latest clashes in the Haraaryo area resulting in the deaths of between 60 to 65 terrorists.

This marks a notable effort by Puntland forces to combat the presence of ISIS in the region, which has been a growing concern in recent years.

The group, though smaller in scale compared to Al-Shabaab, has been active in Puntland, particularly in remote and rugged areas like the Bari region.

The success of this operation highlights the increasing capabilities of Puntland’s security forces, supported by international partners, in conducting complex counter-terrorism missions.

However, the persistent threat posed by militant groups in Somalia underscores the need for continued vigilance and regional cooperation to ensure long-term stability.
