Today is a historic day in the regional state of Puntland.
Voters woke up early to cast their votes for their preferred candidates in the local government elections held on Thursday, May 25.
This represents the first time since 1967 for Puntland voters to take part in one-person-one-vote (1P1V) elections.
Voting is currently underway in several parts of Puntland.
These include Bosaso, Badhan, Burtinle, Galkayo, and Dhahar.
Seven political parties take part in the elections. Over 3,700 candidates have put their names forward for election. Around 28 percent of these are female candidates.
