The President of the regional state of Galmudug has been commended for signing the law against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
President Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoorqoor received praise for the act.
Mohamud Kaarshe, the Head of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Mission to Somalia, praised President Qoorqoor for the move.
FGM is a massive cultural problem in Somalia.
In their meeting earlier this week, they discussed FGM and other issues pertaining to Galmudug.
These included peacebuilding and reconciliation as well as formation of new administrative areas in Galmudug state.
