Puntland government has put on notice a London-based TV channels for “misreporting” alleged increase in insecurity in the region.
Further, Garowe Online reports that the government has rubbished as “baseless” claims that it has been intimidating local journalists and politicians.
Recently, Universal TV accused the government of President Said Deni of being unaccountable in a report that it published. The report appeared in a program called “Public Opinion”.
Additionally, the report had indicated that the government was presiding over a region that is full of “political instability and increased insecurity.”
However, Ali Hassan Sabarey, Puntland’s Minister of Information, issued a rejoinder dismissing the accusations as “baseless, and a work of pure fiction.”
He also asserted that President Deni had created a culture that values and guarantees freedom of speech. Sabarey also denied reports that the state has political detainees.
“We have no political detainees. We have not detained any journalist either. Therefore, the report by Universal TV is nothing but pure lies,” Sabarey emphasized.
Since it was established in 1998, Puntland has continued to enjoy relative stability both politically and economically.
