Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has highlighted the growing threat of ISIS in the Bari region, Somalia’s largest region, which encompasses six districts.
In a recent address, he emphasized the group’s attempts to expand its influence in the area.
To counter this threat, President Deni announced the launch of the third phase of Puntland’s counter-terrorism operations, following the success of earlier phases.
He expressed gratitude to international partners, including the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Kenya, for their crucial support in intelligence sharing and airstrikes, which have been instrumental in combating the insurgents.
This development underscores the ongoing challenges posed by extremist groups in Somalia and the importance of regional and international cooperation in addressing security threats.
