The leader of the regional state of Puntland has registered to vie in the upcoming presidential elections in Somalia.
President Said Abdullahi Deni registered with the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Presidential Elections on Tuesday, May 10.
Consequently, he joins the close to 40 individuals who have expressed their interest in taking over as Somalia’s new President.
The East African nation holds presidential elections on Sunday, May 15.
Candidates interested in the seat have been registering with the parliamentary committee since Sunday, May 8 at the Office of the Senate in Mogadishu.
Deni joins a list that features President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, ex-Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, and two former presidents among others.
