Puntland Leader Warned against Amending the Constitution

The President of Somalia’s regional state of Puntland should cease attempts to amend the constitution.

Senator Abdirahman Faroole, a former President of Puntland, issued the warning to the current President Said Abdullahi Deni.

He said that any attempts by Deni to amend the constitution could plunge Puntland into a period of uncertainty and unwanted tension.

Faroole reminded President Deni of the delicate position Puntland is currently in.

In Faroole’s view, Deni only wants to amend the constitution to extend his term in office.

Further, Deni wants Puntland to have not more than five political parties.

Faroole is unhappy with that proposal considering that he’s the leader of the opposition Horseed Party.
