State Minister Abdifatah Mohamed Abdinor from Puntland has publicly defended the administration’s decision to reject the recent outcomes of the National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting, describing them as unconstitutional.
In an interview with local media, Abdinor expressed concerns that the NCC’s decisions could plunge Somalia into instability.
He accused the federal government leadership of attempting to extend their hold on power through a proposed one-person, one-vote electoral model, a move he claims is a pretext for prolonging their term.
So far, the federal government, represented by Villa Somalia, has not responded to these allegations.
This friction underscores ongoing tensions between Puntland and the federal government over electoral processes and governance frameworks, with the regional state prioritizing autonomy and federalism while questioning the motivations behind the push for centralized electoral reforms.
