Ismail Dirie Gamadid, the Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Climate Change has succumbed to COVID-19 in Mogadishu.
The minister, who had been airlifted to Mogadishu to await a plane to take him to Turkey for further treatment, died of complications arising from the deadly disease.
He died in a Mogadishu hospital where he was receiving treatment on Monday. According to health officials, COVID-19 had damaged his respiratory system extensively.
Gamadid has been one of the most senior members in President Deni’s administration and had served as Somalia’s Minister of Education during the 1970s.
