Garowe, Somalia — The President of Puntland State, Said Abdullahi Deni, has extended his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the Somali nation following the passing of Dr. Abdirahman Said Mohamud, widely known as Dhagaweyne, a revered elder, veteran physician, and prominent political figure.

Dr. Dhagaweyne died in the Kala-Beyr Bari region, marking the end of an era for many Puntlanders who regarded him as a symbol of dedication, resilience, and public service.

He was one of the visionary founding fathers of Puntland State in 1998 and played a vital role in shaping the region’s health and governance systems during its formative years.

In a public statement, President Deni praised the late Dr. Dhagaweyne’s lifelong service to Puntland and Somalia at large, describing him as “a pillar of wisdom, a patriotic statesman, and a guardian of public welfare whose contributions will be remembered for generations to come.”

Dr. Dhagaweyne served as Puntland’s Minister of Health and was instrumental in developing health sector policies that laid the groundwork for improving access to medical care across the region.
