Members of Parliament (MPs) in Somalia’s semiautonomous region of Puntland have rejected the approval of additional Benadir seats.
Last week, the Federal Parliament of Somalia approved the increase of Benadir seats in the Upper House from four to 13.
Today, Puntland’s regional parliament debated the approval terming the decision to add Benadir seats as one likely to “weaken trust and cooperation between the people of Somalia.”
Puntland adds its name to that of another semiautonomous state, Jubbaland, which also condemned the decision to increase Benadir’s seats in the Upper House.
